Members of the Christian community were upset on Sunday after news of Jesus Christ’s statue (Crufix) was found desecrated or damaged. The statue was adjacent to the LIC Building Compound on SV Road, Santa Cruz.
“One of my colleagues informed me that the idol of Lord Jesus had fallen. It was around 5.30 am. A police complaint was soon filed,” said Manoj Dalvi, security guard, who had filed the first information report (FIR).
“Our community prayers are conducted here. It is clear that the statue was deliberately damaged. Even if it fell accidentally, so much damage was not possible,” said Raj Misquita, 36, who often goes to pray there.
Some members stated that they would be organising a prayer service soon. “A prayer service will be organised, mostly on Tuesday,” said Godfrey Pimenta, a member of the community.
Senior police inspector Arun Chavan said, “We have not made any arrests till now.”
According to Bruno Menino Rodricks’ post on Facebook, a silent prayer march (Candle light procession) from St. Xavier Church, Vile Parle to the Holy Cross situated at LIC Building Compound, S.V. Road, Near Santacruz Bus Depot has been planned on Tuesday 17th December 2013 at 7 p.m. followed by a Rosary in protest by local Christians.
